The Summer of the Beautiful White Horse
By
William Saroyan
Do you think Mourad is "crazy"?
Mourad crazy because he stole a horse. He steals a beautiful white horse from a barn stable and takes it to his cousin's house at 4 o'clock in the morning. "One day back there in the good old days when I was nine and the world was full of every imaginable kind of magnificence, and life was still a delightful and mysterious dream, my cousin Mourad, who was considered crazy by everybody who knew him except me, came to my house at four in the morning and woke me up by tapping on the window of my room." (p.1) Why would Mourad go to his house at four in the morning, and then tap on his window, I would be creeped out if someone did that to me. Mourad is crazy because he broke his honesty and stole the horse, but he told Aram that he "borrowed" the horse. "Mourad, I said, where did you steal this horse? Leap out of the window, he said, if you want to ride." (p.3) Mourad doesn't want to admit that he stole the horse because he knew that Aram was going to tell someone. Mourad ends up taking the horse back because he didn't want to get into trouble, even though he committed a crime. In conclusion, these are the reasons why Mourad is crazy.

Moral is expressing or conveying truths or counsel as to right conduct, as a speaker or a literary work.
The moral of "The Summer Of The Beautiful White Horse" is to be respectful and be true to who or what you are. Aram and Mourad don't respect their family of being honest. Mourad tells Aram that he is "borrowing" the horse but he stole it. Then the horse's owner walked past them and they told him that it was their horse.
My family has passed down respect and manners.
