Racism:
What is racism? Provide a definition. Racism is a belief that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
Examples of racism in society:
Past (1940-1960) and Present (2000-2014)
Jackie Robinson made history by being the first African American to ever play professional baseball. At first, he was in an all-black baseball league. He played for the Brooklyn Dodgers' minor league team, the only African American on the team, he was later signed to the major leagues. Robinson took trash talk from everyone, fans, media, and even his own teammates, just because he is black. Robinson never took all of that to heart, he just did his job on the field. His first game was in 1947. Robinson finished his rookie season with 151 games played, 590 at-bats, 125 runs, 175 hits, 31 doubles, 5 triples, 12 homeruns, 48 RBI's, 29 stolen bases, 74 walks, 34 strikeouts, and a batting average of .297. Also ending his rookie season with a Rookie Of The Year award.
What happened? Jackie Robinson wasn't accepted by the whites to play baseball because he was black.
When did it happen? 1947
Why did it happen? In the 40s, everything was divided into sections, some water fountains were for white people only, and some were for black.
Who was involved? African Americans
How does this event display racism? The white people didn't accept blacks into activities or anything.
What is your opinion of the event/incident? My opinion is that they should have let Robinson play and have all African Americans have a chance to play baseball and not have fans screaming discriminating words at them.
Could it have been handled differently? Yes, just let him play, don't judge because of this color, just accept him and be done, you don't have to make a big deal out of it.
What were the after affects of the event/incident? The after affects were mix sports around the world, whites and blacks were playing together and nothing was divided by color.

Opinion:
My opinion on not letting African Americans play baseball is wrong. Why can't the league just let him play, he's not any different from the others. The only difference is his skin color. Just up let the guy play baseball. I hate the fact that the white people wouldn't let the blacks play baseball in "their" league and have the African Americans play in a different league.
